Improving access to one of Loxton’s most popular riverside destinations, this project demonstrates how Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) can deliver long-term performance in demanding outdoor environments. Engineered for durability and minimal maintenance, the structure is built to serve the community for generations.
Connecting the Captain Charles Sturt Memorial to the Murray River foreshore, the Sturt Memorial Lawn Stairs improve access to one of Loxton’s most popular recreational areas. Used daily by locals and visitors, the staircase provides a safe, reliable link between the elevated memorial precinct and the riverfront below, enhancing accessibility while complementing the surrounding landscape.
Designed by Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (CFT) in partnership with Magryn & Associates and constructed by Punch Manufacturing for the District Council of Loxton Waikerie, the staircase was engineered using FRP to maximise long-term performance.
The lightweight nature of FRP simplified transport and installation, while its high strength and corrosion-resistant properties made it ideally suited to the project’s riverside location.
