The newly constructed Lea Lea Bridge in Papua New Guinea stands testament to innovative engineering and community-focussed development.  Commissioned by Turra Holdings Limited, a joint venture between Laba Holdings Ltd and Hides Gas Development Company Ltd, the bridge replaces an aging timber structure that had reached the end of its serviceable life.

Wagners CFT designed and manufactured the 220m x 2m multi-span pedestrian bridge using Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials; chosen for their exceptional durability, resistance to corrosion and low maintenance requirements making it particularly suitable for the coastal and humid environment of Lea Lea.  The use of FRP will ensure a longer lifespan for the bridge, reducing the need for frequent repairs and replacements.

FRP is the perfect material choice for this environment because it is:

  • Inert – will not rot, rust or corrode even in this challenging marine environment
  • Lightweight – safer to handle, transport and install
  • Non-leaching – safe for use in sensitive marine environments

To facilitate the installation process and ensure the proper handling of FRP components, Wagners CFT dispatched a skilled tradesperson to work directly with Turra Holdings’ construction team.  This hands-on collaboration provided on-site training and expert guidance, enabling the local workforce to effectively manage the unique properties of FRP materials.
