The Urunga Boardwalk on the NSW Mid North Coast has been renewed, replacing the existing timber structure with a durable, accessible boardwalk designed for the demanding coastal environment. Located at the mouth of the Bellinger and Kalang Rivers, the new 900-metre-long, 2.5-metre-wide boardwalk provides improved access through the area’s wetlands and mangroves for the local community and visitors.
Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (CFT) is supplying Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) components for the new boardwalk, working with Bellingen Shire Council and design partner Bridge Knowledge to deliver infrastructure suited to the demanding coastal and marine environment.
Replacing the existing timber structure with FRP provides significant whole-of-life advantages. FRP will not rot, rust or corrode and is resistant to termites and other forms of biological degradation.
