If you’ve travelled along Barolin Street in Bundaberg, Queensland, you’ve likely come across these two Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) shared pathway bridges constructed in early 2024.  They were designed, manufactured and supplied by Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (CFT) and installed by RoadTek for the Department of Transport and Main Road to provide a reliable crossing over the drainage system for pedestrians and cyclists.

The two FRP 17m x 3m bolted truss bridges were selected for the site owing to their:

  • 100-year design life, providing long-term durability
  • corrosion, rot and rust resistance
  • lightweight nature for easy transportation and installation
  • and cost-effectiveness; with reduced maintenance requirements

The two shared path bridges were part of the greater Washpool Creek Naturalisation project by Bundaberg Regional Council looking to innovate a problematic drainage system to an integrated public open space that balanced technical stormwater drainage function with delivering improved water quality, ecological and environmental benefits for the creek.
