Wagners Composite Fibre Technologies (CFT) was engaged by Queanbeyan Council in New South Wales to supply a new pedestrian bridge for the community to easily access shopping and sporting precincts. Constructed over Buttles Creek this lightspan bridge is also DDA compliant.
The bridge is constructed from Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) structural profiles and while being extremely strong is also very light weight, weighing in at just 2.5 tonnes. One of the advantages of constructing with FRP is that the material is lightweight and modular by design, so structures like the Buttles Creek pedestrian bridge can be assembled off site and craned into place quickly and effectively.
“This is a very welcome asset for Queanbeyan and provides a safe pedestrian link for the residents of Elizabeth Crescent, Carwoola Street and neighbouring street to the Wright Park sports precinct. Previously, residents were required to negotiate an unsafe embankment/creek crossing to access the precinct and it was not possible for disabled and elderly residents or residents with you children.” – Quenbeyan Council, Mayor Tim Overall.
